BENEFITS OF LONGAN SEED

Longan seeds are discarded as part of the longan fruit. However, the seeds contain many biologically active substances that have been studied.

Ingredients:

Carbohydrate, fat, polyphenols, flavonoids, tannins.
Polyphenol compounds have the highest share including gallic acid, corilagin, and ellagic acid.

Benefits:

Antibacterial activity: Agar diffusion test showed that longan seed extract was effective against many human pathogenic bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus cereus, Psuedomonas aeruginosa, Enterococcus faecalis, Escherichia coli [2].
Antifungal activity: Longan seed extract has been shown in many studies to have antifungal effects against human pathogens such as corynebacterium accolans, candida albicans, and candida neoformas… and some fungi causing dermatophytosis in humans such as T. rubrum, M.gypseum and E.floccosum [1], [2].
Antioxidant activity: The longan seed extraction acts as a natural antioxidant. It has been proved to eliminate harmful free radicals for our body such as superoxdide and peroxide [3].
